About the Malta Cloud Forum

In 2015, Government extended the Malta Communications Authority’s (MCA) remit to help augment further cloud computing adoption in SME and enterprise organisations. As the entity tasked with promoting and facilitating the uptake of e-Commerce, cloud computing plays a very major role and as a result the MCA consolidated its efforts to take on this responsibility by setting up the Malta Cloud Forum (MCF). The MCF is a multi-stakeholder forum of parties interested in the cloud computing eco-system, comprising representatives from consulting companies, civil society, government and academia. At present, the MCF includes representatives of the following organisations:

  • MCA (Chair)
  • Malta Gaming Authority (MGA)
  • Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA)
  • University of Malta (UoM)
  • eSkills Foundation
  • Malta Chamber of Commerce
  • Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PWC)
  • Deloitte Digital
  • KPMG
  • Ernest and Young (EY)
  • RSM Malta
  • EMCS
  • MCAST
  • GRTU - Malta Chamber of SMEs
  • Malta Employers' Association (MEA)

Mission Statement

MCF aims to facilitate the uptake of cloud computing, particularly by micro organisations (micros) and SMEs. The forum’s ambition is thus to help increase and diffuse cloud awareness and create an innovative local culture that supports, embraces, and benefits from cloud computing.

Overview

The MCF regularly conducts studies of the local market with regard to the adoption of the cloud model by businesses, together with the issues and challenges that come along with the implementation of the cloud. Subsequently, the MCF addresses the identified matters resulting out of the studies through a number of different means including the provision of information sessions and training.

The MCF is a vendor neutral forum that aims to give space to as much cloud service players as possible, with the aim of inducing a network where cloud service providers and customers can engage and develop successful business relationships. The forum organises various events associated with cloud computing and continuously participates in a number of cloud, ecommerce, and general IT third-party events.

Values and Beliefs

The MCF believes that the cloud computing model represents a great opportunity for business organisations of all sizes to gain access to enterprise class IT via a delivery model that is sustainable for both large organisations and micros. In turn, cloud-computing allows organisations to compete and innovate in an ever-changing market via large scale resource optimisation and sharing. The MCF therefore aspires to execute this vision by proactively striving to bridge the gap between the cloud computing model and local micros and SMEs.
