MCA CEO Mr. Jesmond Bugeja Appointed to ITU Advisory Body on Submarine Cable Resilience
The Malta Communications Authority (MCA) is pleased to announce that its CEO, Mr. Jesmond Bugeja, has been selected to serve on the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) newly established Advisory Body on Submarine Cable Resilience.
This advisory body was formed to address the increasing need for secure and reliable submarine cable systems, which facilitate the vast majority of global communications and data transfer. These undersea cables are integral to the world’s digital economy, enabling international connectivity and supporting essential services like finance, e-commerce, and cloud computing.
The ITU Advisory Body is tasked with developing strategies to enhance the resilience of submarine cables, including safeguarding against physical and cybersecurity threats, improving recovery capabilities, and fostering global cooperation among stakeholders.
Mr. Bugeja's appointment reflects his expertise and Malta's proactive role in promoting resilience within the telecommunications sector.
