Review of Universal Service Obligations on Electronic Communication Services, Response to Consultation and Decision
As the entity responsible for electronic communications universal services in Maltese islands, the MCA published an updated version of its decision entitled “Universal Service Obligations on Electronic Communication Services” which had been last reviewed in 2015. In order to address pressing evolving market and technological requirements, the MCA is publishing an updated version of this Decision as an interim measure taking into account that a completely revised version of the Universal Service Obligations on Electronic Communication Services Decision Notice is scheduled to take place once the transposition of the EECC into national law expected to take place in the coming months. The contents of this ‘interim’ decision no longer imposes the obligatory provision of certain services including public payphones, facsimile communications services and the provision of fixed prepaid telephony services from a fixed location, subject to a number of conditions as established in the same document.
