Expressions of interest to provide a printed directory as a universal service obligation
The MCA has finalised the adjudication process related to the expressions of interest it received for the designation of an undertaking to provide the fixed line printed directory as a universal service.
Following the MCA decision and call for expressions of interest entitled “Universal Service Obligations on Electronic Communication Services” published in April 2010, the MCA had received expressions of interest relating to the printed telephone directory from three bidders.
Each submitted valid expression of interest was evaluated independently based on the conditions as established in the same decision. As part of a comprehensive evaluation process of all the bidders, in June 2011 the MCA had short-listed a sole remaining bidder, which unfortunately has now also been eliminated.
The MCA shall be assessing alternative options on the way forward and communicate any future developments on the designation of the universal service in question.
