Corporate Development Unit

The External Relations Unit coordinates and ensures effective and efficient liaison with external entities, both local and foreign – other national regulatory authorities and the institutions of the European Union, in particular the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) the European Commission. This unit manages and develops Malta's regulatory input into the progress of European and international policy, standards and legislation and other legal developments governing the respective sectors. In addition, the Unit is responsible for consumer protection public relations, and the promotion and facilitation of innovation and business development in the communications markets.

On the consumer protection front, in addition to monitoring compliance with the relevant sector specific rules and providing a complaints handling service, this Unit adopts a proactive stance, anticipating issues that might harm consumers and seeks to ensure that the regulatory framework is sufficiently robust to safeguard against such practices.  It also seeks to ensure that consumers are well informed about their rights and about offers available on the various communications markets through its media and PR function.

With regard to the innovation and business development function, this unit aims to drive home-grown innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as internationally promoting Malta and its technology readiness in order to attract to our shores more businesses that actively contribute to the development of the communications industry in some way or another.

Through the PR activities, this unit ensures that all communications activities, ranging from media relations, to online communications and corporate events, remain true to the corporate brand and values.
