We have successfully managed to partner with Facebook and will be looking into the work carried out by social media platforms they offer, particularly Facebook and Instagram, in relation to online safety. 73.8% of all students between Year 4 and Form 4 have an account on one or both of these social media sites. It is therefore important that as educators we understand how these platforms work and the efforts we need to undertake to ensure that children's well being is safeguarded whilst these platforms are used. Ms. Caroline Millin, Facebook's safety policy programmes manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa will be joining us and will be touching upon the measures implemented by Facebook to keep people safe. Caroline will talk about Facebook's policies, tools, teams, programmes and partnerships created to make Facebook a safe place for its 1.8 billion community. She will also speak about Instagram's approach to safety. Sessions will be interactive, with At the end of Caroline’s presentation there will also be a Q&As at the end. A session will also be held by the BeSmartOnline! team. This session will focus on the subject of self exposure and will look into the information that is being revealed on social media by teens themselves and how we can help educate them to in a better position to take control of the information they share. In addition, the session will also look into how educators themselves can safeguard their privacy online. A coffee break and light lunch will be served between the sessions.
